Rites of Passage

Rites of Passage. While the various forms of AFS activity have varied greatly, from the first outings of ambulance drivers on the battlefields of WW1 to the adventures of young high schools students from one country living the lives of their hosts in another, the experience has always been a life-changing one for their participants.  New perspectives open up, an increased understanding of the Self and the Other.  In short, a "rites of passage" to be compared to a Walkabout.
